The Confession The Heritage of Lancaster County 2 Beverly Lewis 9781556618673 Books
Book 2 with many turns and twists, unforgettable characters very real. Beverly Lewis takes us once again to the very real Amish world, at least some segments, where humans in trying to obey God sometimes miss the Way set out by Jesus in His Word. Our Bible College principal used to remind us regularly, "Error is truth pushed too far". I see this compellingly displayed in this triology. Be sure to read book 3 The Reckoning too.

The Confession The Heritage of Lancaster County 2 Beverly Lewis 9781556618673 Books Reviews
I was eager to read book 2 of this series. I was not disappointed. I watched the TV movie first of the Shunning and this before reading both. Although the movie is okay, the books out shine the movies. The ending of The confession was far removed from the movie. Laura Mayfield-Bennett's husband was not even close to being a nice guy. The ending was truly touching and heartwarming.
Next on to the Reckoning. Beverly Lewis writes with passion as if she was Katie Lapp, Katherine Mayfield.
Couldn’t put this book down,! It was so good and interesting. I recommend it to anyone who loves Amish family life! With a twist not boring one bit!
This was as good as the first book in the series; I loved it and am looking forward to getting the third and last one.
Katie Lapp has left the Amish church, going to temporarily live with Lydia Miller, a relative who was now Mennonite. Eventually, going by the name of Katherine Mayfield (the name embroidered on the satin baby dress she'd found), she was admitted into her natural mother's home as "the new maid". Laura Mayfield-Bennett (her birth mother)was now married to Dylan Bennett, and was a victim of a dread disease, nearing death. Katherine tried to foil the awful plan Dylan has put into play. Meanwhile, her former love returned to Hickory Hollow to make amends and see if he could find news of "his Katie".
Loved this story line! Ms. Lewis is my all time favorite author. I have read all her books. She is awesome! I also like Linda Byler, she is my second best. Right now I am reading a 3 book series by Suzanne Woods Fisher. Love this story line. I am on book 2. Can't wait for book 3 to get the results. Thank you for having great prices on all my favorite Amish authors. I would not think of buying books any where else. Anyone that wants to read about the lives of the Amish should start with any Author. You will be hooked.
It is ok to write a trilogy if you have a conclusion to reach one, but to make a person purchase three books to find the conclusion of the main story is just plain greedy. There is too much filler information in each book to make it a compelling read. I am sorry I purchased These books and will not purchase any more by her.
I enjoyed the first book so much that I immediately purchased the second book in the series
The Confession by Beverly Lewis
I had such a strong desire to find out what happened next that I stayed up quite late reading The Confession.
*WARNING* SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SHUNNING!!!
So, at the end of The Shunning we find out that after Katie has left to go find her birth mother and has assumed her new life as Katherine Mayfield, a fancy Englischer instead of Katie Lapp, who she was raised as, that Dan Fisher, her first love, is not, in fact, dead.
The first book ends shortly after reading a letter from Dan to his sister confessing that he did not die drowning that day, but instead was sorrowful that he had chosen to let his family think that he had died, and wished to come back and confess to his family to let them know that he was not, in fact, dead for the past five years.
The Confession primarily follows Katie as she goes to Canadadigua in New York to the Bennett Estate to meet her birth mother. However, when she arrives she finds that there is already an Amish girl, named Katie Lapp staying at the Bennett estate, claiming to be her mother's daughter.
Katherine is baffled, who is this girl? Did she go to the wrong home? What is going on? But, out of luck she gets hired on at the Bennett estate to work as a housekeeper, and she uses the time to try to investigate further. In doing so, Katherine discovers that "Katie Lapp" is an impostor who clearly was never Amish and has some ulterior motive for tricking Katherine's mother into thinking that she is her daughter.
With a little more time it becomes clear to Katherine that her mother's husband is behind hiring "Katie Lapp" in an effort to steal her estate from underneath her as her mother is quickly dying from M.S. Katherine needs to find a way to save her mother from being swindled by her own husband, Mr. Dylan Bennett. However, Mr. Bennett does NOT want this to happen and makes it extremely difficult for Katherine to have a chance to prove herself to her own mother.
We also learn a lot more about Dan Fisher and where he has been during the past five years, and ultimately why he chose to let his family think he was dead. However, the story leaves off before he and Katherine reunite (assuming that they, in fact do) and I am guessing in the third book we find out if they come together and what happens...
I though The Confession was a great follow-up to The Shunning. I was so pleased by my purchase, it was entirely worth it, no question. I think if you read and enjoyed The Shunning that you MUST read The Confession. It is heartwarming and keeps you reading and attentive the entire read. I look forward to when I can read the third book in the series!
Five out of five stars!
I loved this three book series. I started with "The Shunning" and was disappointed at the end because it just sort of left you handing and then I discovered it had 2 more books with it. I loved the peek into the Amish way of life. It answered some of my questions about the differences in beliefs. It talks of the struggle some of them have with their restrictions such as they can sing but without music, no musical instruments are allowed. This girl loved music. She'd been taught to play the guitar by her boyfriend who died in a boating accident but she was forbidden to play it. She had to play it where no one could hear her. This first book is really good. I loved it. Katie has a struggle with her desire to enjoy and play music and her restriction from it. She is also destined to marry the Bishop whom she isn't in love with. Some day I'd like to watch the movie. The book and the movie are different some but the story is basically the same. For instance, in the movie, the way the issue of having the guitar is handled differently.
